ULM Softball Hosts Texas State for Three-Game Solar Belt Series


MONROE, Louisiana – The ULM softball team will play its first home game in 12 days with a three-game Sun Belt Conference series Friday-Sunday April 8-10 with Friday’s first pitch at 6:00 p.m. CT at the ULM softball complex . The Warhawks (18-15, 4-8) have gone five straight games on the road over the past two weeks and are looking to end a three-game skid in conference competition. Five of the Warhawks’ last six league games have been decided by a one-point margin.

Beginning with Friday’s game against Texas State, the Warhawks will play eight home games in April, the number of real home games they have played so far this season.

“We have a great opportunity to play Texas State this weekend,” the ULM softball head coach said. Molly Fishtner. “We’re going to be tested and I think that’s exactly what this team needs. We’ve done a lot of productive things over the last few days.”

Texas State (19-15, 6-6), voted No. 2 in the Sun Belt coaches’ preseason poll, plays Sam Houston State on Thursday night before coming to Monroe for the weekend. The Bobcats won the final game of the three-game series against the Ragin’ Cajuns last weekend and swept Coastal Carolina the weekend before.


In games on Wednesday, April 6, Bobcats main receiver Cat Crenek leads the Sun Belt in batting average at .403. In the circle, right-hander Jessica Mullins is the league leader and sixth nationally in innings pitched with 132.0. Mullins has 152 strikeouts, second in the Sun Belt for a No. 20 national ranking. Her 13 wins also puts her second in the Sun Belt and places her 27and in the countryside.


Warhawk Center Lourdes bacon ranks fifth on the Sun Belt list for on-base percentage at .442. With the ULM’s best batting average (.357), total hits (35), runs scored (22) and total stolen bases (9), she holds multiple spots in the league’s Top 10. .


Launcher Kinsey Kackley holds 6th place on the Sun Belt Top 10 lists for ERA (2.69) and opponent’s batting average (.229). Adrianna Chavarriawho has pitched 8.1 innings in relief over the past four games, ranks fourth in games pitched in relief (12) and fifth in the Sun Belt and 79and nationally with 4.90 hits allowed per seven innings. She struck out three batters in her 1.2 innings pitched Tuesday at Louisiana Tech.
