Warhawks score key road victory in Texas, 3-1


SAN MARCOS, Texas – Junior Catherine yarbrough, Senior Theoni Zerva and first year student Taylor Henri scored one goal apiece as the ULM football team claimed a key Sun Belt Conference road victory on Friday night over Texas State, 3-1, at the Bobcat Football Complex.

It was the fourth consecutive victory for the Warhawks (11-3-1 overall, 4-3-1 SBC), who were tied for fifth in the SBC with two games remaining.

“The first 25 minutes we were excellent in possession and then after that I thought we defended a little too much tonight,” said the ULM head coach. Sean fraser noted. “Having said that, we have scored three great goals that we are very happy with.”

Yarbrough put the Warhawks on the board in the 19th minute. ULM was set up with a free kick with Yarbrough scoring a second year assist Lucie Lobato to give the Warhawks the 1-0 advantage. The score held until half-time. It was Yarbrough’s first goal of the season and the second of his ULM career, while Lobato collected his fourth assist.

The ULM struck twice in the shortest possible time in the second half. In the 55th minute, Zerva registered a pass from Henry to double the ULM lead to 2-0. Zerva scored his ninth goal of the season while Henry got his third assist.

Less than a minute later, the Warhawks added to the lead when Henry scored an assist from the senior Aysha Bentick for the 3-0 advantage. It was Henry’s first goal of his career as Bentick landed his sixth assist.

Texas State responded less than a minute after that as Zoe Junior scored to reduce ULM’s lead to 3-1.

The Bobcats only put in two more shots on goal for the remainder of the game as the Warhawks took the win.

Junior Hailey Hillock made four saves and earned the victory in ULM goals. Beth Agee of Texas made two saves in the loss.

Texas State led ULM, 15-10, but the Warhawks had a 6-5 advantage in shots on goal.
