Jesse Gilbert was unanimously elected by the Aquarium’s Executive Committee as the new President and CEO following the departure of Tom Schmid.
CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — The Texas State Aquarium has a new president and CEO effective Thursday.
Jesse Gilbert was unanimously elected by the Aquarium’s Executive Committee as the new President and CEO following the departure of Tom Schmid.
Gilbert first joined the TSA as an aquarist in 2003 and over the years has held many positions including Senior Aquarist, Fish and Reptile Curator, Animal Husbandry Manager , Vice President, Chief Operating Officer and Senior Vice President. Most recently, Gilbert served as the Aquarium’s Interim President and CEO.
“I am extremely pleased to have Jesse assume the leadership of the Texas State Aquarium,” said Charles W. Zahn, Jr., Chairman of the Texas State Aquarium Board of Trustees. “Jesse brings over two decades of experience and a proven track record in leading the facility. Jesse has my full confidence and I look forward to working closely with him in support of the Aquarium’s mission.”
Gilbert holds a bachelor’s degree in biology and marine and field sciences, a master’s degree in fisheries and mariculture science, and is currently preparing a master’s degree in business administration.
According to a press release from the Aquarium, Gilbert will oversee the completion of the Aquarium’s new Port of Corpus Christi Center for Wildlife Rescue, which will report to the Texas State Aquarium’s Institute for Wildlife Conservation. The rescue center is expected to open in fall 2022.
