East Texas Community Witnesses ICU MP Benefit with COVID-19

RUSK COUNTY, Texas (KETK) – The Rusk County Peace Officers Association hosted a hamburger on Friday to benefit two MPs, who have been in intensive care with COVID-19 for months.

Friends and strangers gathered in the rain to donate and help Jail MP Logan Garrett and Patrol MP Charles Bailey. They both got extremely sick from the virus and now they have to learn to walk again.

“You create bonds and a personal relationship with your colleagues. You want to make sure they are doing well financially, mentally, spiritually, so coming together it means a lot to someone who has been struck by COVID, ”said Cassandra Shaw of Lt. Sherriff’s office.

The perk included burgers with fries and a drink for $ 5.

“We’ve set a target of 1,500 meals to prepare… we’re over halfway,” Deputy Nathan Parker said. “A lot of people are coming.”

On Thursday, Garrett is at home but still connected to an ECMO machine which is helping him recover. Bailey is still in the hospital.

You can send a donation to PO Box 414 Henderson, Texas 75653.
