2 people killed in shooting at Texas Community College

IRVING, Texas — A police spokesperson said the suspected shooter and a second person died in an apparent murder-suicide on the campus of a community college in suburban Dallas.

Irving Police spokesman James McLellan said it does not appear anyone else was injured in Wednesday’s shooting at North Lake College.

The Irving college had previously posted notices via social media urging people to barricade themselves in bedrooms.

Video released shows students rushing from campus buildings as police swarm the area. The officers, weapons in hand, move cautiously towards a building.

McLellan says officers are trying to stop vehicles as they leave campus and have stopped public transit nearby in an effort to find suspects.

A post on the college’s Facebook page around 12:15 p.m. Wednesday said the facility is “still under intrusion control,” asking students and faculty to “go to the nearest room and lock themselves down.” If you’re not on campus, stay away. The police are on the spot. »

North Lake College is a two-year public school that is part of the Dallas County Community College district.
